The car stopped near a restaurant.
Tara, her parents and her brother Tarun got off the car.
They were returning from Kandy.
It was around 11 am when they left Kandy.
So everyone was feeling hungry half-way through the return journey.
The restaurant gave a nice view of the surroundings.
Tara, Tarun and their parents went to a table in the open verandah.
A few feet from the table there was a pond.
Father and mother started browsing through the menu.
Tarun got up.
“My legs need some exercise, I‘ll walk around a bit,” he said.
“Shall we go near that pond Aiya?” Tara asked.
Without replying to her Tarun walked towards the pond.
Tara looked at mother.
Mother nodded her head and gave her approval to Tara.
Tara ran fast and joined Tarun.
They were shocked by what they saw.
There were bread crumbs, pieces of paper and many other things in the pond.
There were beautiful orange colour fish swimming slowly in the dirty water.
Tarun was disturbed.
He loves fish.
He spoke to one a member of the staff and asked why the pond wasn’t cleaned.
“We change the water twice a week,” the staff member started explaining.
“The children who come for meals throw everything into the pond and dirty it,” he grumbled.
“Why don’t you put a board here, requesting parents not to let children do that?” Tarun suggested.
“Yes that’s a good idea. I will tell the manager,” the staff member responded enthusiastically.
Tara smiled at her brother.
She was proud of her brother.
What did Tara’s parents do when they sat at the table?
Besides fish, what else did Tara and Tarun see in the pond?
What suggestion did Tarun make to the hotel management to be put on the board for parents to see?
